The addition of the prestigious Sabre range of Yachts and Motor Yachts to Cove Marine’s existing line up is good news for existing and future Sabre customers in the UK and Ireland. As the official and sole UK importer and dealer for Sabre we are in a strong position to offer customers the best advice and service, and have forged strong links with the factory just outside Portland, Maine, New England. The Back Cove brand is also owned by Sabre, and we will be pleased to extend the same courtesy to any UK customers interested in the purchase or sale of a Back Cove vessel.

Pacer 27 & Pacer 376 Sea Trials

Following the recent UK debuts of the Pacer 27 Sport and Pacer 376 racing yachts at the 2010 Southampton Boat Show, Cove Marine are now facilitating test sails for clients who are seriously interested in racing, and competing at the highest level.

The Pacer 27 Sport and Pacer 376CR are low displacement, high performance racing yachts from South Africa based Pacer Yachts. The Pacer 27 Sport is currently being raced in the Poole Winter Series and is already showing signs of things to come for this exciting prospect. The Pacer 376Cruiser/Racer, currently berthed in Portland Marina, home to the 2012 Olympics, is featured in Decembers issue of Sailing Today, the feedback is very positive from the sea trial and all agreed the huge potential the Pacer brand offers to the UK sailing market whether it be cruising, racing or a combination of both!.

Jeanneau launches the 360° Docking

Jeanneau invents the 360 Docking and gives skippers confidence in manoeuvring large yachts in harbour.

Manoeuvring a yacht of over 12 metres in harbour is stressful for many skippers and their crews, whether family or not. Even with a bow thruster, the bulk, the inertia and the sensitivity to windage and tides of these boats makes their handling difficult in the often small and congested ports of the European coasts. These problems can spoil the enjoyment of a lovely sailing trip, as well as put off the acquisition of a larger model.

In partnership with the ZF Marine industrial group, one of the world leaders in the business of providing gearbox and transmission technology, Jeanneau have just designed a totally innovative system that makes manoeuvring in harbour child’s play.

The principle is simple: the engine is coupled to a sail drive with a rotating pod capable of pivoting over 360°, which also controls the bow thruster, and the helm is locked. The boat is steered with one finger with a simple joystick.

Thus it can manoeuvre over 360° (from which the name “360 Docking” comes) in all directions: forward, astern, sideways or diagonally, at the desired speed to come gently alongside.

Such a system is a first for large sailing yachts. It is available from now on as an option on all Jeanneau yachts over 44′.

Following the recent appointment as Jeanneau agents for Dorset, Cove Marine is pleased to co-announce the introduction of the all new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 439. This boat will debut at the London Boat Show, Jan 2011.

At first glance, she is clearly a Sun Odyssey. Moreover, the all-new Sun Odyssey 439 reflects the latest design trend that started with the Sun Odyssey 409. Dynamic lines, a hard chine on the hull, lots of hatches and windows along with bevelled edges on the deck combine to form a powerful and straight forward design from the pen of Philippe Briand. But her natural beauty is more than skin deep.

A closer look reveals an innovative deck plan that makes sailing easy. A Jeanneau is first, and foremost, for sailing. Three main concepts shape the Sun Odyssey 439: a fast, seaworthy sailboat, simple to use deck and sail plans and a high-quality interior. The seaworthiness of the Sun Odyssey 439 is most appreciated in offshore conditions. The boat inspires confidence as every detail has been carefully considered to give the boat more performance while remaining easy to sail. A potent, high-aspect rig comes in four versions adaptable to each sailor’s particular region or taste. The first makes use of the high-aspect rig to carry a 105% jib and a large mainsail. Both the mainsheet and jib sheets disappear into the coachroof and are lead back to the winches at the helm. The second sail plan uses the same jib along with an in-mast furling mainsail. The third sail plan is performance-oriented and combines a large, overlapping 140% Genoa along with a fully battened mainsail. The fourth, and last version, includes a self-tacking jib mounted on a track in front of the mast. Two different keel options 2.20m and 1.60m can be used for all of the sail plans. Philippe Briand carefully studied each combination to make sure that each choice offered exceptional stability and control in all conditions. When the wind is not available, the powerful 54HP Yanmar sail drive takes over pushing the boat over 8 knots.
The modern and simple to use deck plan was the result of a complete rethinking of the ergonomics of sail handling. All the sheets are lead back to the twin helm stations which remain
uncluttered. Sail handling is within easy reach of the helmsperson making the boat enjoyable and safe for all onboard. Harken’s new Rewind winches are available as an option to make
sheeting in and out a breeze. The centrepiece of the cockpit is the large, folding table. When closed, the aft platform provides security to the cockpit while underway and folds down when at anchor with its integrated swim ladder. Several large lockers throughout the cockpit and a dedicated life raft locker ensure storage for all the gear necessary for offshore work.
The new interior design is clean and beautiful with plenty on contrast between the rich wood finish, light headliners and high-end upholstery. The profusion of solid trim throughout the interior showcases the traditional woodwork for which Jeanneau is known. Leather-covered handrails and solid wood hand holds create a safe and seaworthy interior. A choice of
traditional teak and holly or light oak floorboards emphasise the rich wood interior. The exceptional visibility and light comes from the eight hull ports and eleven opening ports and
flush hatches. Two interior layouts are available. The first has 3 cabins and 2 head compartments, each with a separate shower. A key feature of this layout is the spacious
forward cabin that includes a comfortable seat, a desk, plenty of storage and a private head and shower. The second layout is geared towards owners wishing to put the boat into management with 4 cabins including an owner’s cabin and a cabin with two single bunks along with two head compartments.
Without a doubt, this new generation of Sun Odyssey 409 and 439 are innovative, high-design and powerful. The Sun Odyssey 439 is the perfect boat for the demanding sailor that wants pure performance and comfort without complexities. The multitude of choices and versions responds to the needs of each individual skipper.

Cove Marine introduces the Pacer 400 Cruiser Racer.

This exciting new cruising & racing prospect comes from the South African stable of pedigree racing yachts, Pacer Yachts.

The Pacer 400 is offered in the following models:

The Pacer 400 sports the same ‘look’ as her smaller sister ship the Pacer 376, but with some fairly important differences. Her coachroof arrangement is different, offering a different treatment of the halyards and controls leading back to the cockpit, and the addition of a saloon to deck opening hatch for those hot summer nights. The deckgear arrangement is optimised for performance and shorthanded sailing. The cockpit is spacious and the interior offers a modern, clean look, with the beautiful trims and comforts afforded the Pacer 376. Main difference below decks, is the private owners cabin and direct access to the heads from the saloon, so affording privacy in the forepeak cabin.

Cove Marine, your one-stop shop for boat repair, boat transportation or new boat sales is having an open weekend at Unit 23, Portland Marina, Dorset on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March 2010 from 10am to 4.30pm each day. We will have 5 boats afloat from our Grew, Pro-Line and CoveFisher ranges, and will be happy to take customers out on them for sea trials.

In addition there will be food and drink available as well as an opportunity to talk to our experienced staff about your boating aspirations.
